Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia!

Happy Halfway Through the Week!

Tonight I am letting you know some great info about chia seeds!

Let me start by saying this..... EAT THEM! They have awesome benefits and they are delicious with other foods!

What is a chia seed?

Chia seeds are edible seeds that actually come from the same plant as the Chia Pet, Salvia hispanica. They are unprocessed, whole-grain, and can be absorbed by the body (unlike flax seeds). They have a mildly nutty flavor which makes them perfect for pairing with foods and drinks. 

What are the benefits?

Supposedly, some say that chia seeds can aid in weight loss. How? These little boogers can help you feel full. Researchers are still looking into this, but studies do show beneficial heart effect from chia seeds.

2 tablespoons of chia seeds: 140 calories, 4 grams of protein, 9 grams of fat, 12 grams of carbs, 11 grams of fiber, and some vitamins and minerals.

Annnnnd this is a recipe from my teacher-friend, Vanessa! She was so nice and brought them to our team, and they were SO good! Energy BITES!:

[1 cup rolled oats, 1/3 cup honey, 1/4 cup chocolate chips, 1 cup peanut butter, 2 tbsp chia seeds]

Where can I find chia seeds?

I buy mine in bulk at HEB! But I know they sell them at most grocery stores.

I personally love chia seeds in my breakfast smoothies! (half of a banana, vanilla protein, 1 cup of 1% milk, up to 2 tbs chia seeds, 1/3 cup fresh baby spinach leaves, 4-6 strawberries, 4-5 ice cubes)
