There's Such Thing as Pink Salt?

Just like a mermaid loves salt, I definitely love salt too!
It's actually one of my guilty pleasures! BUT over the past couple of months, I have found a guilt free way of consuming it!

How so?

Ta da! I swap the white salt for pink salt!

Wait. There's such thing as pink salt?

Yep! And it can actually do amazing things for your body unlike the typical table salt.

Most people think of salt as sodium chloride, or a white table salt that we love in and on our food, but it truly is "a highly refined, processed white substance" that lacks nutrients.

So....what is pink salt? Umm….salt! REAL salt to be exact!

Pink salt is unprocessed "raw" salt. It is hand-mined from salt caves that were formed around 250 million years ago in the Himalayan mountain range. According to historians, it was even worth more than its weight in gold thousands of years ago during ancient time!

Why do I choose pink?
Well, besides the fact that regular salt lacks nutrients and it's highly processed, pink salt offers so many benefits!

Here are the benefits:
1. It contains 84 minerals your body wants and needs! - It is known to be the "cleanest, purest, and most 'mineral dense' version available on our planet." These amazing minerals are directly injected into your bloodstream which your body will love!

2. It is a great detox! - Of course water is the most detoxifying substance for your body, but supposedly salt is the "vehicle" that lets you "transfer toxins from healthy cells to the bloodstream, then pushes them out of your systems." Pink salt is known to be much more efficient in doing so.

3. It lowers blood pressure! Pink salt can help lower your blood pressure and stimulate better circulation. Since pink salt is absorbed in your bloodstream more efficiently and effectively, small doses are known to help "modulate your pressure and stimulate better all-around circulation."

4. It helps relax muscles! - If you feel "a bit foggy or fatigued, the odds are stacked against you that you are dealing with a loss of electrolytes and salt in your body." Since pink salt goes into your bloodstream more efficiently, it allows you to restore/replenish your body in a hurry.

5. It can help clear sinuses! - When you mix pink salt with hot water (let the salt dissolve), it can help clear up sinuses and repair your respiratory conditions you've been having issues with...including asthma!

6. It can help you sleep better! - Pink salt relaxes your mind and muscles, helping you sleep better. It gives you everything your body needs to restore/replenish overnight.

It is also proven to balance out your acidity and alkaline levels, and can heal your arteries.

How much should I consume? I have been searching for the right consumption of this kind of salt, but I am having no luck. My guess is obviously not to consume it like water, but also realize that it is a natural, mineral-enriched supplement. It is still sodium, so I would say not going over the sodium intake of 1500-2300 mg.
Where can I find pink salt?
You can find it at most grocery stores. Below I am holding a picture of the one that I use. I like to get mine from Trader Joe's, it's good, cheap, and it comes in a grinder.

Here are some fun pictures that Hannah took of me with my pink salt and my super cute "Mermaid Life" shirt! I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Confetti Cake Collection. She sells adorable tees for any occasion! They are super soft and comfortable, and of course simply cute! Her website is www.confetticakecollection.com, I will also post the link to her shirts on the side of my blog under my "Links and Stuff."

I hope you find this information helpful and useful! I hope you all have a wonderful week! :) I cannot wait to share my upcoming posts with you. As always, I am here to help and support you. Don't be afraid to ask me questions or share any information with me! I look forward to hearing from you!

REAL Talk

WARNING: If you aren't ready for a venting post, then I would back it up and read another post for now!

Okay. I have a confession to make…

I am not fake.

Ever since I started my blog, I really have been finding my inner me. The REAL me.

Yes, I have gained confidence. Yes, I feel more proud of myself. Yes, I am healthier. Yes, I am happier with my body. But no, I am NOT trying to be anybody else. I AM ME.

I feel as though once I started my Facebook and Instagram page, I have been getting a little bit of negativity here and there. That's definitely not what I want.

It's kind of upsetting. Okay, it's really upsetting.

I truly put my heart into this blog, for you and me. It keeps me motivated to know that I am motivating you.

I feel like some people think that I am trying to claim fame or become somebody I'm not!

A purpose in life of mine is to serve.

And one way I like to serve is with positive guidance, a helping hand, and encouragement to others.

I know a lot of you on Instagram (and a few on Facebook and Bloglovin) don't know me, but I promise what you see is what you get!

If you knew me personally, you would know that I am a very sensitive and caring person. That is the whole reason why I started my blog. I lacked self-confidence throughout my life, ended up choosing a different lifestyle journey,  and now I'm running with it. And I want to share that with you because I care!

No, my goal is not to be famous. That's so silly!

Do I want my blog to be noticed? Yes! Because I feel as though it is important for everyone to be on a path to a healthier and happier lifestyle. With help. And encouragement. And knowing that somebody will be there for and with them along the way

That is what my blog is meant for! Okay, now that I have those tears out of the way… I guess I need to leave by saying this:

Don't let anyone stand in the way of YOU. Stay positive. Do not give up on your goals and dreams.

I've said it before and I will say it again… you are beautiful and different than everyone around you. Embrace it. Be you.

Okay. My vent sesh is over. This is just a prime example of not letting someone or something knock you down. I can only move forward from this! And for the record, I LOVE blogging. I LOVE being able to help YOU!

Annnnd what the heck, here are some pictures to prove that "ain't nobody got time for that!"

XOXO,
The REAL Callie

P.S. If I lose followers after this, that's okay. I am just being me! :)

And I promise I will be posting about salt tomorrow. I just had to get this off my chest.

Gabbie

Alright... Let me tell you about this girl. This stubborn, independent, driven, beautiful girl. She is truly my biggest role model and I look up to her like crazy, even if she is my younger sister.

Gabbie is a huge reason why I keep my blog going and why I started it.

Around the time that I was thinking about creating my blog, she came to me extremely upset. She wasn't happy with herself inside and out. She didn't like the way she looked or the way she was feeling. I sat down with her and told her that she could easily fix this. I said that if she made some little changes, it would pay off, but she had to start by trusting and believing in herself! I told her it would be tricky changing food habits at first, but if she stuck with it she would feel so much better.

And that's exactly what she did. And as a matter of fact, she has lost 10 pounds and has seen a dramatic difference in her face, she noticed that it was a lot clearer!

So how did she do this all in just 4 weeks?

She changed her lifestyle in a positive way.

I sat down with her and figured out a meal plan. I had her write down the foods she loves (that she thought were healthy, but still satisfying to eat) and I planned out some meals that she could easily make and eat throughout the day!

She completely cut out energy drinks. This was definitely hard at first. She was having mood swings, cravings, and was sleepier. But those side effects only lasted a week. She now actually has been going to bed earlier and waking up earlier. She's been getting normal hours of sleep!

She drinks water. A lot of water. And she also found a new liking: orange juice! It's a way better alternative to energy drinks she says. She also will have iced coffee every now and then for the caffeine kick.

This is the most confident and happy I have ever seen her! She is so positive and motivated. It really is crazy how changing little habits can make huge differences!

Gabbie will be going off to Ole Miss this week and I couldn't be more proud of her.

Gabbie, if anyone can tackle this new experience, it's you! I pray God provides you with strength as you start this new journey. I pray He brings you wonderful experiences, warm welcomes, and forever friends and memories.

Without further ado, here's my sister flaunting her new lifestyle change :)

Just like Gabbie, I know that you can also find your positivity and strength to begin a fresh start. I am here to help you begin a lifestyle of healthiness and happiness!

I mentioned that I helped Gabbie with meal plans. My new posts starting on Sundays, "What's in My Lunchbox?," are going to be meals that will help you and keep you on track with your healthy lifestyle. I will be posting a grocery list of healthy food items to stock up on soon!

I hope you have a wonderful Monday! I hope to hear about your lifestyle change, and if you need any help/advice please don't hesitate to contact me!

Callie

How to Get Abs

I truly hope you didn't click this thinking you would find out an "easy" way to get abs...

I'm going to flat out say it... I want to see definition in my stomach, but do I? Not exactly.

I have NEVER seen any type of ab muscle in my stomach. Ever.

BUT!! Within the last few months, even though I can't see my abs, I can feel them! That's a start, right?

I have been wanting to find out how to get abs ever since I was like 14. Obviously, I haven't looked hard enough, or I've been spending too much time watching people do the exercises instead of doing the exercises myself!

Another thing I have learned over the years is this: getting abs isn't just about exercising. Getting abs or definition is about what you eat.

Have you ever heard "abs are made in the kitchen"? Well, it's true. I can do all of the crunches and planks I want, but to see long-lasting results I have to eat healthy. I need to fuel my body with the right nutrients!

Doing ab workouts definitely helps you build the muscle in your core, but eating the right nutrients will help burn the fat, increase your metabolism, and speed up the process!

Speaking of speeding up the process…. okay, lez be honest. It won't happen in a week...

Persistence and patience are key. I have to realize that I'm not going to do 100 crunches one night and wake up the next day looking like Jessica Alba.
That's not realistic...and neither is just doing crunches every night.

So the key to getting abs is eating healthy! Give your body the right nutrients! Of course, to tighten up that core, you can do some ab exercises and cardio! Did you know that sprinting is one of the best exercises to tighten up your core? But, don't over do it. It's best to do ab workouts 2-3 times a week, not every day.

So what foods are best for my tummy?

Best foods for abs:

Nuts (with skins intact…such as almonds)
Yogurt (probiotics are great for you!)
Fruit (mainly berries)
Whole grains
Veggies (leafy greens fo sho)
Lean meats
Peanut butter (aim for natural)
Eggs
Whey protein powder
Olive oil
Beans and legumes (help build muscles)
A lot of these build muscles and help burn fat!

Worst foods for abs:

Sodium enriched foods (these tend to make you bloated!)
Potatoes
Chips
Deep fried foods
Soda
Processed meat
Fatty red meats
Pretty much anything high in saturated fats

Below I have a few ab exercises that I do along with sprinting and eating healthier!

The first one is just a basic plank. Planks are amazing for your core! Just make sure to keep your butt and face down! Honestly, just hold it until it hurts.

The next one you simply tighten your core, balance on the ball, bring your knees in, and roll them back out. I do 3 sets of 10!

Now for crunches on the stability ball. The stability ball is great to use for crunches! You are using your core muscles to keep yourself balanced and using them while crunching! I do three sets of 20-30.

This really works my whole core. Just repeat this motion. I do 3 sets of 10-20.

This is a more advanced version of the one above. Just follow the movements and repeat! I aim for 3 sets of 10, but these are kinda hard!

Okay, these kinda suck. The key is to not let your feet touch the ground, but have them go as low as possible. I try and do 3 sets of 10!

These aren't too back, but again, don't let your feet touch the ground! I do 3 sets of 20.

Okay, for these I do 10 slow, then 20 fast! So a total of 30, three times!

You can incorporate any of these into your workout! You do not have to do these all at once. Remember, try and workout your abs only 2-3 times a week. Trust me, lifting weights and cardio are helping build your abs along the way!

Who knows? Maybe one day I will see some definition. It definitely takes time! No one said it would be easy!

But until then, I'm embracing what I've got! I can definitely feel a difference and I have noticed that my love handles are disappearing!

I hope you have found this information helpful! If you need any extra advice or help, please don't hesitate to contact me! Have a wonderful Monday! :)

Callie

Positively Believe in Yourself

Feeling a little unmotivated or discouraged? Do you think you won't get where you will feel comfortable with yourself?

Real talk here,

Don't expect to see results in two days, a week, and maybe not even in two weeks.

I heard on the radio that the average American will attempt to eat healthy and it only lasts four days. Why is this?

Because most of the time we don't believe in ourselves. We trust our minds over our bodies.

The only thing standing in your way is, well, you.

But guess what...you can do it.

Trust me, you can. But better yet, trust yourself. Your body depends on you. And you depend on your body.

How much willpower do you actually have?

Test it. I dare you.

And I don't know how many times I've heard this: if it were easy, everyone would be doing it and succeed.

It will be hard! But It all depends on how much dedication you put into it!

Start by being positive. Love your body. Give it the nutrients it needs! Yes, you might have some slip ups! That's okay! I know I did this week when I was away with a group for a conference, but am I giving up? Nope. I'm just going to get right back at it!

Here's another thing to do, be yourself. Accept yourself and others. Be thankful for what you have. You have the tools it takes to build a better you! And God gave you the power of love to spread to others and help/support them!

If you begin to do those things, even though you might not SEE results within two weeks, you will definitely FEEL results! And that's just the beginning of a wonderful lifestyle change!

So whether you're trying to lose weight, maintain weight, gain muscles, or even gain weight, don't be discouraged! You truly are amazing. Begin to love yourself and your body. Be nice to your body! Be nice to yourself and to others!

I believe in you, but do you believe in yourself?

You have what it takes to create a happier and healthier you!

YOU are what's holding yourself back, so let go

"Just do it." -Nike (totally had to throw that one in here)

Okay. I'm done... for now! I just know that I constantly need these reminders to keep me motivated! :) I hope that these words will also motivate you! You are stronger than you think. Smarter than you think. Capable of doing more than you think!

Love you all! Keep it up and don't give up on your goals! :)

XOXO,
Callie

P.S. I want to know some more about you! What are your goals? What keeps you motivated? Feel free to message or email me! I would absolutely love to know and support you along the way.

And here are some motivational posts that I found on Pinterest and really love!

Please excuse the language!

Track Workout

Good morning!

One of my favorite things to do is go on walks, and for some strange reason I love walking around a track. Yes, the track is just a repetitive oval thing that can make you lose count after six loops, but there are ways to make your workout more fun! Also, some of these workouts do not have to be done at a track! Below, I will show you a workout that I do along with my walk/jog!

The first one, lunges. I like to do lunges around the curves of the track. I usually get about three sets of ten on each curve. I will simply trade off legs between each step (so technically, I get 5 on each leg for each set).

Grapevine! I will do these on the straights of the track. Sometimes, I will go halfway on the straights and switch sides. Or I will go halfway on the straight, then jog the rest, then repeat on the other side on the other straight. Another great thing to do besides these: sprints. Did you know that sprinting for 30 seconds, walking for 30 seconds repeatedly for 20-30 minutes, will tone your stomach? It is said to be one of the best workouts for losing fat and showing definition in your stomach area!

Next, calf raises! Obviously, you can do these anywhere. To modify, just do them standing in place, no elevation. I like to do three sets of 12. Or sometimes I will do 50 fast ones!

Okay, this one is a given. Bleachers. If you don't have bleachers near you, try stairs. I like to mix the bleachers in with my walk. Sometimes, I will walk around the track once, do bleachers, walk around the track again, do bleachers again, and keep repeating. You can mix the bleachers in however you like!

Jumps. Okay, I'm not too hot at these. I can only make it up like halfway, eat it along the way, then jog/walk the rest of the way up. I've see people jump the metal, bleacher part…so you could try that for a challenge. Or you can do it like me and jump the steps. Sometimes, I will skip a step in between!

Tricep Dips. You can do these just about anywhere. If you need a more modified version, bend your knees. I like to do three sets of 12.

Well, there you have it! These are just some ideas for when you get bored at the track or on any walk/jog. I will say, I don't do all of these every time I go. Sometimes I just enjoy just my walk/jog!

Also, remember to stay hydrated! Drink water before, during, and after! If you eat prior, try and eat something light about 30 minutes before. If you eat after, try and eat within 30 minutes after your workout. Eat some protein! :)

Have a great rest of your week! :) …and trust me, if I can do these workouts, you can too!

Over the next couple of days I will be out of town, but hopefully I will have a little bit of time to post! :) As always, I hope this information is helpful to you! I love to hear from you and see what things you are doing to improve your life style!

XOXO,
Callie

Oh you know, just being a Nike model (HA!) and all…

And another special thanks to Hannah for taking all of these pics! :)

Because I'm hAPPy

Hey y'all! I hope everyone had a fabulous and fun filled weekend!

I've had some requests on the apps that I use and/or recommend. I personally love finding and using fitness/nutrition apps! So below I will have a list and description of each. I will also give you my thoughts on them! Oh, and most are free!

Wholesome - Okay. This free app is so cool! I've mentioned it in a post previously. It has every fruit, veggie, bean, and any other natural food you can think of! If you click on an item, it shows you all the benefits of it and the vitamins it provides (some I can't even pronounce!). It also tells you how many calories are in each! If you buy the app it can keep track of what foods you eat. I'm perfectly fine with the free version.

MyFitnessPal - This was the first app that I got on my iPhone. It's a food and workout diary. You can submit your weight and what you want to weigh, and it will give you the calorie intake that you should consume to lose weight. You simply type in the foods you eat and the workout you do. It also has a scanner so you can scan your food container to save time. You can also follow friends and keep each other motivated! This app is free!

Fooducate - Don't get this free app if you enjoy a lot of processed food. You scan or type in a food and it grades the product. It tells you what is bad (or good) in the product, and says why. I like this app when I go to the store...yeah, I get stares when scanning food with my phone but whatevs.

Fitocracy - This free app is pretty neat. You can submit your workouts and work with a trainer to help you build muscle or lose weight. You earn points and achievements when you lift weights and do cardio. You can join groups and share your goals, food, questions, etc. (I'm not gonna lie, I just got on here again to give you an overview and just spent 30 minutes looking at interesting groups.)

PumpUp - This free app is like an Instagram for people who workout. I don't really use this app, but you can record your weight, how many calories you burn, and post a picture for others to view and like.

Couch to 5k - I had the free version of this app. It simply helps you go from walking to running a full 5k (about 3.1 miles).

Nike+ - This is a free app, but you need the Nike+ shoes and chip (the chip is $20) to use it for best results. I got the Nike+ watch for Christmas and I'm obsessed.

Nike Training Club- This app is free and offers different workouts that are definitely sweat-centered. It works best when connected to your Nike+ gear.

Map My Run - Justin uses this free app! It keeps the distance ran, average mile, pace, and it keeps a log of all of your runs. It's pretty much the Nike+ app but without the nike accessories. Some of it might not be very accurate.

Lose it! - This free app is very similar to MyFitnessPal. It keeps a log of your food, calories, exercise, and weight.

So there you have it! I've tried out, used, and still use a lot of these apps! If you use any of these, I would love to know your thoughts! Maybe you use another? If so, I'd love to know about it and I'm sure others would too!

XOXO,
Callie

How Do You Choose To Eat?

Hola friends!

There are a lot of different "diets" and fads out there that give you false information about how you should eat, and most of them end up backfiring in the long run. I want to talk to you about a few different life styles that I think are healthy and helpful. I must say though, I am no nutritionist or anything, but I have done a bit of research on these. These are the ones that I think are the most interesting and well known. Who knows, maybe you will try one of these out, enjoy it, and see results!

Before I begin… We need to have some real talk. For all of you that think you can eat whatever you want and just workout... Think again, the way your body fluctuates mainly depends on what you are putting in your tummy. Food is very important for your body. Yes, of course working out is an added bonus because you do tone and lose weight, but to see AND feel the results you REALLY want, eating the right foods matters most. So don't just depend on working out to get you to your fitness goals. I promise you will see better results if you eat right AND workout in the mix!

Okay now for the life styles that I find interesting and useful for the body:

Clean Eating:

Clean eating is a life style where you consume mostly clean, natural, and organic foods. A clean eater eats foods such as whole grains, whole wheat, fresh fruits, fresh veggies, baked foods not fried, fewer ingredients in processed foods, and focus on portion control. Clean eating takes some getting used to because it steers away from artificial sugars. This is personally the life style that I am trying to adapt to.

Paleo:

Paleo is a life style where you do not eat processed foods, gluten/wheat, sugar, and dairy. The purpose of paleo is to eat everything that is not man-made/factory made. A typical paleo eater eats fish, meat, fruits, veggies, eggs.

Portion Control:

This is essential to any life style change. The only way you will see true results is if you eat the right size portions (and less processed and fatty foods).  You can work out all you want and see results, but if you want to see lasting (and actually quicker for some) results, eat within your portion sizes. It's important to always read the back of a label. Check the serving size. If the serving size is 1, then go ahead and eat/drink the whole thing. But be careful, a lot of times the serving size might say 2 or something other than 1. Another thing to look at is Serving Per Container. Take a normal bag of whole wheat gold fish for example, the serving per container is 6. That means 6 people, not stick your hand inside and take 6 huge scoops and eat it (guilty).

Just keep an eye on how much you are intaking within each meal. Studies show that 6 small meals throughout the day are better than 3 large meals. Having smaller meals throughout the day gets your metabolism going! Oh! And make sure you are consuming enough calories your body needs daily.

Weight Watchers:

This is a diet based on points. You can eat almost whatever you want but within your daily point range. I don't know too much about it, but I have seen some pretty awesome results from people I know… Don't just rely on the results from Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Simpson… they are celebrities, who advertise the product, who get paid to do it, which means they also workout constantly, and are strictly on the plan. I do think this is a good plan for those that are learning to eat smaller portions and want to gain a healthier life style! I would definitely try it.

P.S. Tomorrow I will be posting about some Apps that are helpful in achieving a healthy life style!
